Hector Saxe is driven by the idea of taking an established game and transforming it into an object of astounding design – and with this shut the box set, we see this vision come to life. It’s handcrafted in France from leather and complete with nine pearly acetate tiles, two resin dice and one scorebook with pen. Young and old will delight at its fine craft as they test their mental arithmetic.

Self-taught Michel and Patricia Saxe kick-started Hector Saxe in 1978 with a simple vision: to reframe traditional games as a key part of home design. To do so, they found the finest materials – think precious wood and Italian leather – while staying alert to current trends. From their workshop in Bastille, they craft every piece by hand, making expert, innovative craftsmanship feel like child’s play. And while their story began with backgammon, they’ve since expanded to cover all other elements of games night, from a light-hearted shut the box match to a high-stakes poker tournament.
