Story

Lorenzi Milano’s designs remind us to find beauty in the moments that’d otherwise pass us by, like serving up a storm in the kitchen before tucking in at the dinner table. That’s why the maker creates pieces – just like this pourer and tray – that are a delight both visually and functionally. Note how the drip-free set makes an occasion of the simple act of adding oil and vinegar to a dish, with beeswax-polished Iroko wood and brass ferrules that are covered with customized Zebu horn inserts. Lorenzi Milano’s raw materials are foraged in accordance with veterinary and environmental legislation while being selected at the end of the animals’ natural life cycles.

Maker

Giovanni Lorenzi founded Lorenzi Milano in 1929 with the opening of a knife-grinding and cutlery shop on the well-heeled via Montenapoleone. Still a family business today, it’s helmed by Giovanni’s grandson, Mauro Lorenzi, who oversees the Milanese atelier. Speaking about what makes each object so special, Mauro puts it down to the natural, unique materials – as “nature never gives you the same thing twice” – and the art of the hand touch. The objects, which are suited to every room in the home, are made to last.

Meet the Maker:

Lorenzi Milano

According to Lorenzi Milano, the secret to its fine craft is ‘technical virtuosity’, which is communicated through rare, precious materials from natural sources – such as leather, bamboo and horn – hand-turned metals and an impeccable “made-by-hand, step-by-step” process where time doesn’t matter, as only the end result does. Growth has happened among the beauty of Italy and its thriving art scene, which is forever rooted in its ever-expanding design language.
