From around the mid-17th century, apothecary jars were detailed with inscriptions that would bear Latin abbreviations of their contents. Deciphering them provides an insight into the vast array of ingredients that would have been stored within, such as ‘mirto’ for liqueur, ‘menta’ for mint, ‘altea’ for marsh mallow, and so on. Each vessel in this set from the 1940s secures with a dome-like lid. Due to their age, they are intended for decorative use only.
