While much modern art was banned in former Czechoslovakia during the mid-century, this was not the case for glass; instead, designers could work freely, which led to a boom in creativity that built on the region’s centuries-old learnings. This set is produced by Ingrid Glass, headed by Curt Schlevogt and his father-in-law, Heinrich Hoffmann. They devised a technique to make glass look like semi-precious stones – in this case, alexandrite, which is closely associated with this period and region, and favoured for its ability to shapeshift from blue to purple depending on the light.
