1950s Flavio Poli Murano Glass Ashtray

Italian artist Flavio Poli is renowned for his contribution to the development of Murano glass – especially his championing of submerged glass (or ‘sommerso’) during the 1950s. The method requires an authentic knowledge of colour combinations, as well as a high level of dexterity in blowing and layering. To achieve the beautiful results of pieces such as this ashtray, articles are submerged in clear molten glass of a different colour, producing a layered, chromatic effect. Please note, this item is a truly original vintage piece with slight imperfections and distinctive characteristics that add to its charm and celebrate its unique history.
