Alphonse Mouton was born in 1900 to a family of potters, and so spent many years pushing the boundaries of ceramics. Working in Saint-Vallier in France, he was known for his recognisable glazes, playful silhouettes and patterns that kept a finger on the pulse of the art movement of his choice – be it Art Deco, or in this vase’s case, Art Nouveau.
