From his studio in Seoul, South Korea, Jinho Choi handcrafts Cheongja pottery, a term that refers to ceramics that were initially produced during the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392 CE). Widely esteemed as some of the world’s finest, they’re recognised for their jade green hue and unique surface patterns – features that Choi takes inspiration from for his signature styles. For example, the colour of his celadon is created by mixing natural materials (as opposed to artificial), resulting in a softer, paler shade of the hallmark glaze. His pieces are individually handmade and therefore artfully unique, capturing his contemporary stance while staying true to traditional Korean techniques.
