The value of a well-worn staple drives Anglo-French shirting aficionado Charles Sébline, who founded his eponymous label in the spring of 2019. Much of his appreciation for handicraft comes from his career trajectory, as he passed through houses such as Vivienne Westwood, Azzedine Alaïa and Yves Saint Laurent, where he would sift through second-hand shirts for inspiration. The joy of his pieces – which riff on Savile Row tailoring and public school uniforms – lies in their duality, as they sit at the meeting point between English and French, masculine and feminine, precise and fluid. For Sébline, playing with tradition and “cutting into the past to make something for the future” is imperative, communicated through unusual colour combinations and contrasting collars. These features sit alongside faithful trademarks such as jaunty stripes, thread embroidery and military-inspired frogging.
