Masumi Ando’s ceramics seem to hold the landscape within them: the clay is drawn from volcanic soil, the glazes shift with the light, and the forms feel as if they’ve grown rather than been made. This water jar is a prime example, handmade at the foot of the Daisen mountains and distinguished by its tactile, fabric-impressed surface.
