Award-winning weaver Maria Sigma has spent the past decade refining the art of textile handcrafting, spinning limited edition and custom cushion covers, rugs, throws and wall hangings in her London studio. Employing cutting-edge looms powered by renewable energy, her process ties age-old techniques to a contemporary philosophy centred on sustainability. Natural, undyed materials, the practice of slow-making, and a commitment to zero waste form the genesis to a Maria Sigma design. Finished pieces are minimalist, with an emphasis on texture, while the founder's Greek heritage and passion for mathematics manifest in geometric patterns and subtle shots of colour. Sigma is especially moved by a leitmotif in Greek mythology: thread as a metaphor for life – its key events and a person’s unique destiny.
