Named for the tiny village in the heart of France, Accolay pottery has a rich legacy. It’s here, as the 20th century entered its second half, that a group of ceramicists settled and began to create striking pieces of earthenware that soon drew legions of fans from all over the country and beyond. Although each brought a distinct aesthetic and skills, their collective work is defined by sculptural silhouettes, functionality—essential to customers during this chapter in time—an organic, almost unfinished earthiness, and vibrant colors. With this 1950s vase, an eye-catching combination of chocolate brown and vivid bottle green is given a mottled, textured look.
