The process of clay oxidation often results in a loss of colour, but that isn’t the case for these small plates by Lee Song-am – instead, each one is defined by his signature deep black glaze. They reflect his preoccupation with Goryeo and Joseon ceramics with their perfectly imperfect shapes, high rims and textural finishes.

Lee Song-am first took to the pottery wheel during his high school years and has continued to expand his research ever since, experimenting with size and shape for modern, architectural results. Instead of taking notes, his unique approach to the creative process sees him take mental stock of his ideas before giving them shape and body on the wheel.
