Alexandra Llewellyn’s Geometrix backgammon set takes inspiration from the important role geometry plays in its namesake game. The original artwork sees a tessellation of shapes and symbols come together, creating a denim-hued, ocean-like scene that’s reminiscent of Gio Ponti’s Majolica tiles. It’s part of a limited edition collection of just five pieces, and has been passed through the hands of nine different workshops in the UK. Note the endless list of thoughtful features, such as the calf leather shakers, the semi-precious playing pieces in calming turquoise and tiger’s eye, and the three varieties of sustainable wood – tulipwood, bird’s eye maple and walnut – that have been hand-picked by Alexandra and inlaid by a marquetry artist. Don’t miss the weighted doubling cube, a detail that ensures cheating is a no-go.
