Story

Each backgammon board Valeria Molinari creates is borne from a deep love for the game she learned from her grandfather and an artistic drive rooted in a reverence for nature, in all her beauty. This hand-painted set is inspired by the element of fire and features a transparent resin coating to protect the art and ensure smooth play, playing pieces crafted from colored resin and copper, and lined dice shakers that muffle sound.

Maker

Milanese artist Valeria Molinari combines an educational background in architecture with a love of design, nature, and most importantly, backgammon. Her grandfather Raimondo inspired her to lead a life of art and curiosity and taught her how to play the ancient strategy game. Today, she’s known for her handmade backgammon sets, the result of a happy accident, when, after finding herself locked down in Venice in 2020, away from her beloved board, she decided to paint her own. As a seasoned traveler who’s spent time in New Zealand, Chile, Japan and beyond, our planet’s elements and the beauty of natural landscapes are among her most powerful muses.
