Story

The founders of Scarlett and Sallis – India Holmes and Suzie Dowty – share an appreciation for eclectic objects. Their scalloped trays are handmade in Vietnam using the Son Mai technique; the wooden base is cut, moulded and covered in natural lacquer before a thin layer of clay is added. Then, layers of lacquer and colouring are applied which are sanded down approximately 20 times to reach the seamless, high-gloss finish.

Maker

It all started with a trinket tray for close friends India Holmes and Suzie Dowty, who joined forces in 2020 to launch Scarlett and Sallis. Their creations lead a masterclass in how to build a happy home, comprising thoughtful details like scalloped edges and glossy colour palettes. All are lovingly made and lacquered by hand, highlighting the founders’ mutual love of eclectic, eccentric objects and a wacky interior design scheme. And don’t be fooled by the pretty aesthetic – each one is strong, durable and suitable for endless uses.
