While Kevin Stamper originally found success with crafting bespoke furniture in the 1990s, he knew his true passion lay in objects on a smaller scale, particularly wooden boxes. This saw him pivot to the age-old craft of marquetry, and once he’d mastered the fundamentals in his Worcestershire countryside workshop, he began experimenting with his own techniques. Two of his signatures include a hand-dyed veneer process that creates strong, consistent color while preserving the visibility of the wood grain, and his iconic pixel series. Stamper’s muses are varied, but typically hail from the world of Modernist art, while his own aspirations to keep pace with the zeitgeist often see him creating in a visual language born from the digital universe.
