Story

Among the abundant artisanal community of Colombia is where Maria and Laura founded Coro Cora. Inspired by the liveliness of their home, they source makers from across the country – namely from Usiacurí, the town on the Caribbean coast – who are adept at weaving by hand. The techniques used have been passed down through many generations, and begin by shaping a wireframe over which they weave intricate patterns, forms and motifs with iraca palm. From a collection inspired by holiday tables, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, these baskets feature joyful pumpkin motifs.

Maker

Maria and Laura – the mother-and-daughter duo behind Coro Cora – hero slow, sustainable consumption and local craftsmanship; that’s why they work with weaving cooperatives across Colombia, empowering women artisans wherever possible. Handcrafted table accessories are their strong suit, made from natural materials that have minimal ecological footprints. Designs are fuelled by the joys of nature, like a glimpse of undulating coral, a perfectly formed palm leaf or the simple delight of a ripe lemon branch. These whimsical themes are realised with the help of an ancient technique where the palm is intricately woven over a pre-shaped wireframe.
