History, heritage,...

History, heritage, and Cotswolds pride lie at the very heart of The Stroud, guiding the studio’s every decision. What the team creates in the pastoral idyll of the Stroud valleys is truly special—a 21st-century reincarnation of the strouding, a thick woolen blanket European traders and explorers coveted, both for its warmth and as a commodity for bartering with people around the world, including the Native Americans of the New World. Central to the cloth’s appeal was the wool of the Cotswold Lion sheep, considered the finest in Europe and fit to adorn royalty. Today, a thoughtful, limited-edition production of blankets that run the aesthetic gamut from earthy and minimalist to vibrant and patterned helps conserve a rare breed that risked extinction just a few decades ago, and in turn, the sheep reinvigorate the soil and support biodiversity.
