Returning to work after the long Italian summer is not an easy feat on paper—but then, Virginie and Nathalie Droulers are not revered in the interior design world because they follow a script. The Milanese interior designers and twin sisters are world-renowned for their unique aesthetic that finds its signatures in a rejection of the formulaic in favor of unexpected poetic combinations.

Stands to reason, then, that when they opened the doors to Virginie’s home for ABASK this month—fresh from their well-deserved downtime in the mountains—they made their return to the city look as dreamy as their designs. 

“When I come back to Milan in September, there's always a sense of joy to walk into the house and see everything waiting for me. She’s like a sleeping beauty and I wake her up kindly and softly,” smiles Virginie. 

Having established their interior architecture studio, Droulers Architecture, in 2000, and having made Milan their base on account of its proximity to the famous design hub of Brianza, the pair have recently embarked on their first home-design collection, Droulers Collezione, that finds a sweet spot between bohemia and baroque with that elusive Milanese polish. See the exquisite edit that comprises walnut wood and galalith trays, brass and resin matchboxes with precious stone decoration, twisted cast bronze and marble doorstops, and rainbow Murano glassware. 

“Nathalie and I have always loved to find old techniques and reuse them today, because we are losing the capacity of finding this craftsmanship that is extraordinary and it's really the history of our country,” says Virginie. “Each piece is different because it is made by hands and hands can never make the same [thing twice].” 

In celebration of their collection, they show us how they use their creations to give their space a gentle reset and set the mood for the new season. Be prepared: back to work never looked so good.
