Story

A multidisciplinary artist in the truest sense, Clare Crespo lets her work be guided by passions both old and new. Pottery is one of her more recent pursuits, and this collection of candelabras and candlesticks was created in partnership with her friend, the ceramicist Heather Levine. Working in Heather’s studio, the pair share each piece between them: Heather makes the forms, then Clare sculpts on top of them, glazing and carving by hand before Heather oversees the firing. The result is high-fired stoneware that carries the eternal whimsicality that defines Clare’s oeuvre. This design conveys Crespo’s reverence for Mother Nature and all that she offers, inspired by the humble doormouse.

Maker

Clare Crespo is an artistic fantasist, her boundless imagination and conceptualized realms beyond our everyday human world shaping both her work and life. She has no single medium or specialty, instead following her time-tested passions and newest obsessions to craft all manner of captivating pieces, from life-size dioramas to meticulous miniatures. Her muses range from the animal kingdom—she has a particular fondness for moths and owls—to the vast universe of gastronomy, and these inform designs such as Delft pottery-inspired china, unique candelabra, and other clay creations, to name a few.
