Paul James didn't arrive at ceramics by accident, but he did take the scenic route. After studying ceramics at London's Royal College of Art, he spent three decades shaping accessories for fashion houses, where an instinct for materiality and form became second nature. Returning to clay in the UK, he rediscovered his first creative language and now creates handmade porcelain bowls and vessels that sit between architecture and abstraction. Rooted in a distinctly modernist way of thinking, his work strips away the unnecessary. Every piece is turned, sanded, and polished by hand, allowing the natural character of the clay to speak for itself.
