Los Angeles-based The Elder Statesman has served soulful, larger-than-life cashmere since 2007. The story traces back to a blanket the founder – Greg Chait – received as a gift, which ignited his desire to recreate it. Soon enough, the trajectory went from a passion project to the works, as it is one of the only vertical knitwear manufacturers in the US. Using vintage Japanese handlooms, knitters follow a meditative, free-spirited approach where they let the day's mood determine what they do with their grade-A Italian yarn, hence the one-of-a-kind colours and variations. Secret recipes await in the in-house dye facility and are left to dry in the Californian sun. The results are happy, laid-back and “just like sunshine”.

The Elder Statesman

LA-based The Elder Statesman has been serving up soulful, larger-than-life cashmere since its launch in 2007. The story traces back to a simple blanket the founder – Greg Chait – received as a gift, which ignited his desire to create pieces of praise-worthy quality with a side of Californian cool. Every artisanal piece, be it a pillow or robe, is made from carefully sourced cashmere, then hand-loomed, dyed and sundried in downtown LA.
