Joe Armitage
For Joe Armitage, legacy goes beyond a connection to the past—it forms the blueprint for his studio’s work. At the heart of this heritage is the Armitage lamp, a 1953 prototype his architect grandfather Edward designed during a trip to India. Today, Joe reimagines the simple opaque cone and spindly legs in myriad incarnations, from desk lamps and wall sconces to chandeliers and floor lamps. To the 21st-century collector, these lights feel effortlessly contemporary, yet they are rooted in the maker’s ancestry and the shapes of subtropical flora that remain to this day in Chandigarh, northern India.
