Flavio Poli – former artistic director of Seguso Vetri d’Arte – gave the sommerso technique a new lease of life in the 1950s, using it to create a layered, multicolored effect. The method sees overlapping layers of transparent glass melded through a heating process and immersed in pots of molten colored glass. The result, which won Flavio Poli many an award and accolade, gives the illusion that fluid has been trapped within.
