Story

The Lacquer Company’s Wiggle collection—the line from which this tray hails—is presented in collaboration with Peter Mikic, the award-winning interior designer originally from Melbourne, and now based in London. His purposeful designs are inspired by everything from Roman marble floors to rippled mid-century lamps, with their signature glossiness the result of the complex son mai technique. Handmade lacquer is very delicate and may be scratched or marred; use a soft, damp cloth to clean it and gently apply a car wax to restore the finish.

Maker

James Lowther’s colour-rich accessories shine a light on the ancient art of Vietnamese lacquer painting. First, base layers of Sinh are applied to protect and strengthen the wood, then natural lacquer is mixed with fine ground mountain rock, alluvium soil and cashew nut shell oil before being smoothed and wet-sanded. Finally, the colour is applied and ready for meticulous hand-painting.
