Onofrio Acone is a multihyphenate, his endeavors spanning interior design, restaurants, and a winery he acquired with friends. But one constant in his life is ceramics, a devotion that stretches back some 40 years, ever since he first touched clay as a five-year-old boy in his artist parents’ garage workshop. His connection to the material is deeply personal and tactile—as such, he eschews machinery and even wheels in favor of sculpting every piece of pottery by hand, using traditional coil building. Vessels are his signature—urns, vases, and jars—each of his ceramics hand-painted in his Amalfi Coast studio using natural earth pigments in shades reminiscent of the Mediterranean, the spontaneous brushstrokes rendering them entirely irreplicable.
