Lee Song-am first took to the pottery wheel during his high school years and has continued to expand his research ever since, experimenting with size and shape for modern, architectural results. Instead of taking notes, his unique approach to the creative process sees him take mental stock of his ideas before giving them shape and body on the wheel. And if you’re curious as to why the maker often favours black as the colour of choice, it’s because he believes the hue reveals form the most, while also being a means to express an invisible inner image. Keep an eye out for his signature deep black glaze and pieces that spotlight his love for atypical silhouettes – ones that are reminiscent of Goryeo and Joseon ceramics.
