Born in Kyoto in 1972, Fuminari Araga is a master of the wheel, shaping clay into forms that feel both disciplined and alive. A graduate of the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramic Training Institute, he established his kiln in 1998 and now works from Yawata, Kyoto. His practice centers on kohiki—white slip brushed over clay and sealed beneath translucent glaze—its soft, warm white recalling the restraint of Joseon dynasty pottery. Araga avoids unnecessary carving, allowing the gentle traces of throwing to remain as subtle evidence of the hand.
